How to fix Errors ORCAP-2434 and ORCAP-2435 with a design that was done by an outside Contractor?

I have 3 designs that have these issues and need to fix it to be able to update the designs. I did see the ORCAP-2434 fix, but it seems that this is just a quick fix and I would like to get rid of the bad library link permanently. 

ORCAP-2434 link WARNING(ORCAP-2434): Footprint 'smdcap' specified for instance C* is missing. Ensure 'smdcap' is in library path.

I also would have to guess that the ORCAP-2435 error is due to the bad library link as well and when I fix that one, it will fix this issue as well. I did check the schematic parts that have this additional issue and there are no hidden pins, and I can cross probe without issue and all pins and nets match.

My last question is how did this issue even happen and how do I make sure it does not happen again?
