formatting output depending on length of object

Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to format output depening on the length of objects.

As an example it could be necessary to create a data file consisting of PCB footprint names and part numbers.

I would run through all footprint names to find the length of the longest footprint.

now using printf(output "-30%" footprintname) how could I make the 30 dynamic and adjusted to the length of the longest footprintname ?

sprintf(output_specification "-%d" footprint_length)
printf(output_specification footprintname)
