Changing Padstack of Pin in a Symbol

I've searched the forum archives and found some posts that "sort of" answered my question, but none that had the answer I wanted to hear.    I'm making the switch from an old version of Layout to Orcad PCB Editor 16.2 (Allegro), which means I am currently learning to create new footprint symbols.   Rather than starting from scratch, I''ve been using existing symbols and simple editing them to meet my needs.   What I would like to be able to do is to "change" the padstack definition for a pad (not edit, actually change to a different padstack) for pins on the symbol.  Some of the forum posts mention that the only way to do this is to delete the existing pin and place a new one,  surely there is an easier way.
