axlLoadSymbol from library instead of board

Hi

I have a board with a symbol "0805res" but would like to use axlLoadSymbol to load it from the library to get information to compare against the symbol inside the board file.

Is there a way to do this?

Best regards

Ole

     Ole,

Looking at the documentation it appears axlLoadSymbol will always find the symbol in the board file first, before it even looks at the library path. A work around might be

    1) build a list (or table) of symbol information you want to compare in the present deisign.

    2) open a new blank design and load the symbols of interest.

    3) do the comparison

    4) output report

    5) reload design

    Hi Craig

After writing the post I actually found out that you can use the path when using axlLoadSymbol

    e.g., symdef = axlLoadSymbol("package" "c:/Company/pcb/symbols/1206res")

So this solves the problem for me, but thanks for your suggestions.

    Best regards

    Ole
