Launch a Perl Script from APD/Allegro w/o Freezing Screen

As of now, all perl or batch files I run from the APD/Allegro menu are run through script files.  The problem is this freezes the graphics on the screen so that users cannot do anything until the custom perl program is over.

I see that there are IPC functions for handling outside code and am wondering a few things.  First, will using IPC functions to call my perl scripts allow the APD/Allegro window to continue functioning, or will it freeze up?  Second, HOW do I call a perl script using ipcBeginProcess?  I've tried numerous ways but the Tk window never shows up (I use Tk for graphical parts of my perl programs).

Thanks.
