Prevent dos shell from pop up

Hi,

In my Allegro Skill script I am using system() to call out a Perl script - this has the side affect of popping the dos window for a second until the Allegro Skill is finished running. 

Is there a way to prevent/suppress the launch of dos window by any means such as an Skill API which may be used for issuing system level command?
