Rapid Prototyping Tools for PCB Design

Hi,

I am interested to understand why is it that the currently commercial PCB prototyping tools (fast CNC, printers etc.) are not so widely adopted by the designers' community, the idea seems good so what stops it becoming part of the design process? what are the limitations?

Has anyone tried this in the past?!
