axlDBCreateShape attach to via?

I've used axlDBCreateShape and attached it to a symbol with succes in the past.

Now I would like to be able to do the same for a via but seems like this is not possible or is there a way to do this?

I guess my only option is to copy existing padstack ids and during that process add a custom layer and replace padstacks, it could have other impacts since an Update padstack would replace, but I'll have to live with that
