Some STEP Files Don't Work

mckeen
mckeen over 10 years ago

I am trying to use the 3D step package mapping capability in Allegro (16.6 S038), but find that many step files don't work.  I am downloading step files from 3dcontentcentral.com.  I find some work just fine, but others do not show up in the mapping window preview or when in the 3D rendering of the PCB.  I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the step files because I am able to load and view them fine in Solidworks.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem or have any suggestions/workarounds?

Thanks

Again this just works for me. I would check your version of software from Help - About. Make sure it's 16.6-SXX latest being 068. If it's P004 then that's the base release, get the latest hotfix from Cadence / Cadence Channel Partner.

Hi, I just add the same issue. With some design I was able to see step files in the STEP_MAPPING viewer and with some other it wasn't the case.

The issue happens when my .brd file is located in a directory with specific character as for example 'é'. I assume this as a bug.

My name is Clément and this kind of problem happens very often :) Hope my answer will help

    I'm on 17.2 S047

This is a well-known issue with various software and even some games when any file is located in a directory that contained a non-English letter. I have struggled with STEP files exported from Artec Studio for a few days until the tech support told me that I should check the file directory. Such a simple solution that didn't come to my mind.
