Is there a reason the print command does not work in a case ?

If by "print command" you mean a "printf" function, that could be because the "printf" gets buffered and may not be output immediately, and indeed "maybe never" if you are using it to debug a script. Try the axlMsgPut statement instead, check the reference, pretty much the same a "printf" but the output is "immediate" if the message type is not "error or warning".
