axlDBCreateFilmRec, axlFilmCreate, or axlfcreate

This a bit of discussion on the forums regarding each of these functions, but not a lot of clarity. So, here we go!

axlfcreate seems to be an awkward function with minimal documentation and an inability to update all film parameters (X or Y offset, shape bounding box, and undefined line width). Even Frank disparaged it. So I wouldn't use that in new code.

axlFilmCreate seems to have no documentation in algroskill.pdf, but it has a file in the DOC folder with the rest of the SKILL functions. It will support all film parameters (though they're optional).

However, it would seem that axlDBCreateFilmRec, introduced in 17.0, is the preferred function. It's fully documented and, interestingly, makes all film parameters required. (Also interesting, the documentation for this function mentions axlfcreate and calls this function "axlDBCreateFilmRecord". But I digress.)

So, to the question: I don't see a reason *not* to use axlDBCreateFilmRec. Is there a reason to use one of the other functions? And for legacy code, is there an advantage (other than control of all film params lacking in axlfcreate) to migrate to axlDBCreateFilmRec?

from the documentation from the 17.2  release (<cdsroot>\share\pcb\examples\skill\DOC\FUNCS)

both axlDBCreateFilmRec and axlfcreate are obsolete and the preferred function is axlFilmCreate

In 16.6 the documenation for axlFilmCreate can be found at

               <cdsroot>\share\pcb\examples\skill\DOC\QIR\NEW
