Are design level symbol properties inaccessible when placed on a board file?

I’m looking to access design level properties attached to a symbol from the board file that the symbol is placed in. They don’t seem to be available from the board file.

I’ve (tried to) attached a sample symbol to try.   There are two custom properties on the attached symbol, one is a design level the other a symbol level. Place it on a board and from the board file try to view the property “DESIGN_PROP”. I can’t seem to find it.   I can easily access the property “SYMBOL_PROP” but I cannot access “DESIGN_PROP”, it doesn’t seem to exist in the board file.. I would like to access the property either through SKILL or with just a report.

So the question is: Are design level symbol properties inaccessible when placed on a board file?

Thanks for any help.

 Chris

If you want design level properties to flow from a symbol to a board, you must select both "Design" and  "Symbol" element options when creating the user property in the symbol editor.

After placing the resulting symbol in the board, the Allegro Show Element command reports the property is attached to the symbol definition.
