Any 17.4 users out there?

Just downloaded it but don't have the time to install and test.  Anyone tried it out?  What's new about it that you like?

Have to find time to drop in a new license file with IT and 17.4 databases are not backwards compatible with 17.2.   But, 17.4 has a "compatibility mode" that keeps 17.2 data in 17.2.  Nice.

This was described to me as an internal cleanup and revamp of the UI that reduces the risk of another Microsoft update breaking their stuff.

The new 3D mechanical step transparency option will get a lot of use.  EMA has a 17.4 webinar coming up that will give an overview of everything.

There is a downrev command (Export - More - Downrev) which will take you back to 17.2. The Design Sync between Capture and PCB is very cool and much more intuitive. New Via Arrays command in PCB which is cool also.

IMHO - It's Cadence attempt to look like Altium. Disappointed

As mentioned below - new license file for Allegro required (In my case at least), I have only played with Capture so far.
I don't like the default dark theme - reason for this stated was to save power, yea I'll believe that one...
I love the ability to pull pages onto another window.

I have not played with pspice yet - no comment.

I how it handles the windows admin issues - we don't have admin privileges anymore on our boxes.

I like that the PCB is located project window, it should help to prevent errors in over writing files.

Only been playing1 day Slight smile

Good info Wild. Looks like I'll continue on with 17.2 on Windoz7 for as long as possible. I'll at least wait until the 1st hotfix patch (learned from experience). Thx.

    Hi,

I agree!!  Very much like Altium Designer.  I do not like the Dark Theme, but you can change that in the Options to go to a Light Theme if you want, but just for Capture.  I have not seen anything for the other tools that allow that Theme changeout.

I was not crazy about the unidirectional 17.4 - 17.2 incompatibility, but this has been going on for a while anyhow...nothing new with this mentality and probably nothing wrong with it too as more features and new Operating Systems (W10 versus W7 or W8.1) require the changes to be compatible.  BTW, I am running 17.4 on W10 virtual machine, but heard that you cannot install/operate 17.4 on W7, but you can on W8.1.  Is that true?
