Any 17.4 users out there?

Just downloaded it but don't have the time to install and test.  Anyone tried it out?  What's new about it that you like?

With glaucoma running in my family, dark everything is very much appreciated as I try to keep my eyes going until I can afford to retire.

Since Downstream Blueprint and CAM350 also have dark mode, I'm inclined to think it comes free with the UI library Cadence chose.

I have to campaign for anything that makes Allegro easier for the occasional user EE...who won't shut up about how "awesome" P*DS is.

If they're going to check out a board, move stuff around, check it back in with a million DRC issues with the note "can we release by 10AM tomorrow", for the love of God, we have got to stop using P*DS.

Getting some finicky EEs off Capture/PADS can be a major challenge. It's not that they like the packages so much, it's that they can make endless changes on the fly. Kind of like trying to keep flies off a pile of cr*p.  Slight smile

Given a choice (I have to rescue Al*ium and P*DS projects and translate back to its former environment.)

Why choose Altium?   Opening a schematic and a board in the same window...   Yuck.  Does that make me old school?

We most likely have a license for it, but I have not installed it yet, only seen some screen shots and compared them to the other tool "System capture" that I think will replace Capture HDL in some future. I have always wished for the possibility to use a dark theme. Not for possible energy savings, but my eyes like it. Having been in the business since Mentor BoardStation using Falcon Framework on Unix and since then used most of what's in the market I favor Cadence. While it has had a bit of an akward Unix interface for its Allegro tools, it has all those nice features that enables the user to do "dangerous" things, often necessary when doing complex RF or High Power designs. The learning curve is a bit high, but once gotten the hang of it, it is a very efficient set of tools.

I downloaded it too but awaiting a License update. At a first blush "Capture Dark theme" is looking like Altium... Yikes. I don't buy the "Save Power Mantra" that is just silly IMHO. It will be interesting to see how well Capture performs on WIN10 with this newer release. 17.2 was not stellar in that regard for along time.

I like the idea of "Design Sync" between PCB & Schematic, i'm thinking that will help make things easier on anyone migrating to Cadence or for that matter existing users too.

Will know more when I try it out.
