Import gerbers from Altium to PCB Editor 16.6

Hi.

I work with ORCAD PCB Designer Professional 16.6. I tried to import gerbers from altium (with .GBL, . GBS, .GML, .GTL, .GTO, .GTP, .GTS) but I couldn't.

So, it is possible to import that altium gerber files to this version of PCB Editor?

If it is possible, how can I do that?

And if it is not possible, it is possible in other version of PCB Editor or do I need some tool independently PCB Editor version?

This is possible, but requires a lot of work. As others point out Allegro likes to import only Allegro "flavor" gerber files so you may need to massage the gerber prior to import. Depending on what you are attempting to accomplish a CAM tool might be a better choice or possibly importing DXF files to use as guidelines. Another note: I have a number of Allegro designs that I had to import foreign gerber into and the design files become huuuuuge to the extent that you'll start encountering design database issues unless you delete the gerber prior to post-processing / data output.

CAM tools are the best solution for foreign gerbers.  I am currently using Viewmate Pro for these things as well as for gerber, drill, and ODB++ file comparisons.  It allows you to load two files with the same name but different sources.

Hi I saw this thread and wonder if you have any experience with the batch command "convert_gerber" according to documentation it is supposed to convert other cad gerber to allegro format.

    convert_gerber

Batch command that converts Gerber data created on another CAD system into an Allegro PCB Editor database. You can convert lines, vias, or both.

You also have the option to convert figures to vias, if via information is not provided in the Gerber file. When this option is chosen, Allegro PCB Editor matches the stacks of figures at an x,y location to a padstack definition, so the design converts with the same padstacks with which it began.

    Syntax

    convert_gerber [-f|-v|-e|-q] input.brd output.brd]

    -f

    Converts only figures

    -v

    Converts both lines and vias

    -e

If an error occurs when converting lines, terminates the command

    -q

Displays minimal screen messages during execution

If neither -f nor -v are used, the default execution is to convert only lines. A log file, convert_gerber.log, describes the processing of the command.

Convert_Gerber doesn't read Gerber files, it only attempts to convert dumb lines & figures in a board file into clines & vias, similar to the 'derive connectivity' command within Allegro
