Convert text into shapes?

Is there a way to convert text into shapes?  I've got some text in a symbol file that I'd rather not rely on the design file having the proper dimensions assigned to the text in order for it to show up properly.  Seems to me, converting the text into shapes should solve that problem, but I can't find any way to do that.

  • Most of the logos I have made have a proprietary font.

    I import a raster image of the logo into Autocad and trace outlines around the text.

    Then export the outlines to Allegro using DXF. In Allegro, I compose shapes from the outlines.

    It's a long boring process, but works well for an occasional logo.

    Another thought would be to use manufacture/create detail to change the text into lines.
