Convert text into shapes?

Is there a way to convert text into shapes?  I've got some text in a symbol file that I'd rather not rely on the design file having the proper dimensions assigned to the text in order for it to show up properly.  Seems to me, converting the text into shapes should solve that problem, but I can't find any way to do that.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi. That's an awful stretch to exercise just to get the text suitable. What I've seen other companies do in the past is get all the text on you want, and create a .pdf of it and place the .pdf files in a central location. That way when someone wants to see the 'pretty' picture of the dimensional information they can call up the .pdf picture.  :) Me, personally, get it in as quickly as possible and... move on. Time to market overrules any 'pretty' details. Just my opinion.

But, if you do create the .pdf file, simply create a spreadsheet also that you can peruse quickly and hyperlink to the .pdf presentation. Nice, quick - have your librarian do it.  :)

Thanks for the reply, but that's not really what I'm after.  Plus, no librarian.  Here's more context.  I am creating a silkscreen logo that I imported with LogoMaker.  Obviously, it all imports as 'shapes', including the 'text'.  The graphics portion of the logo looks just fine, however the text portion that imported as shapes doesn't look very good.  Thus, I replaced the text shapes with real text.  It looks much more crisp now, but will rely on the text settings of each design file being correct.  I'd rather convert the real text to shapes so that the whole logo is composed of shapes only, then there shouldn't be any issues.  I was thinking of a feature like the 'shapes->lines' or 'lines->shapes' feature, but for 'text->shapes'.

Use File - Export IPF filer and make a plot file of your items, you can then import this File - Import - IPF and place it, the imported items are now lines. I have attached a skill file line2shape.il that will convert lines to shapes. 4075.line2shape.zip

I tried the Export/Import IPF, however the text came back in still as text instead of lines.
