3D Canvas vias aren't displayed

Hi,

I'm having trouble displaying the vias in 3D canvas.  The below pictures are from the example file 'Cadence_demo' that comes with the software.  Canvas only seems to show the pads on the different layers, but not the vertical part.  If I select a via, it shows up in red and if I turn on a dielectric layer, there is a hole but it is un-plated.  All of the via boxes are checked in the visibility tab.

The padstack definition is a plated via.  The design parameters window has plated holes checked. This is on both 17.2 and 17.4.

Thanks for any help.  David.

Try selecting a net in the design (use the TAB key to cycle through the objects selected) then right click>3d canvas you should see just that net with the via (and hole) shown in 3d.

    Hi Steve,

The same thing happens.  The pic is again from the example file.  Can you explain how the TAB key works here?  I've never used that.

    Thanks, David

So make sure all the layers are turned on in the Visibility pane and all object are on in the Find pane. Then if you hover over say a track segment (cline seg) it will highlight, if you press the TAB key it will now highlight the complete track (cline), if you press again it will highlight the complete Net (all objects on that net). The TAB key cycles through the allowable objects in the Find pane. You can right click at any stage and perform task on the selected object. If I get to net I see the complete object. Make sure all layers are turned on the Visibility pane though

Thanks, never knew about the TAB key.  Very useful.

I followed you directions, but it didn't change.  I got the exact same result.

Ok, found the issue.  The 3D canvas color theme had been set to custom and 'plating' was at 0%.  That did it.

    Thanks for the help.  David
