How ToMake A Custom Pastemask Shape ?

nutron

I would like to make a footprint of this IC.

I got the shape of the thermal pad done , but as shown in the attached picture , the paste mask is not equally shaped like the thermal pad.

How does one create the suggested paste mask so it matches the shape of the thermal pad ?

I tried to create a flash , but the problem is that i can not see where i need to place the segments of the paste mask .

Do i need to create the footprint of the IC and then add the paste mask in PCB designer to the footprint instead of doing it in the PAD EDITOR ?

As mentioned above create the ssm file from the dxf import below:

How I do this type of paste mask - create the shape in an MCAD tool such as AutoCad or Solid works export to dxf and import the shape into Allegro.

Multple shapes added on the package paste mask layer in the footprint.

Isn't this the job of the electronics design software ?  Somehow this defeats the purpose of ORCAD if one needs to use CAD software to create pad shapes.

I did not say that you could not do this in Allegro, nor did I imply this. i just mention how I do it now as an FYI..  It's just easier to create complex shapes in an MCAD tool.   Back in the day I used to create these types of shapes in in much earlier releases of Allegro.  Since my company has the MCAD tools I take advantage of these.  So if you don't have access to such tools, then create the shape symbols as previously mentioned.

    Have fun.
