Custom pad shape and symbol, when placed on pcb pad locations move.

Hi everybody,

I've created a symbol with custom pad shapes. Everything looks correct in the symbol editor.

And the 3d view looks correct (upside down to show placement)

But when I try to place it on the pcb the 2 "T" shaped pads aren't in the correct location.

I have the pad shape centered on the pad...

with no offset on the padstack editor.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thank you!

Try a Place - Update Symbols, enable Shape and Flash Symbols, then enable Update Symbol padstacks from Library and Ignore Fixed Property then click on Refresh. This will update the symbols from the library. If this doesn't help then look at your psmpath (Setup - User Preferences - Paths - Library) and make sure that the directory where your custom shape symbol is stored is at the top of the list. Then repeat the steps to update the shape and flash symbols.

I have done as requested, with no change. Symbol properties show the correct path for the symbol. Also I've verified the pad path is set so that the custom pad path is the highest option.

I've also tried renaming the symbol within the symbol editor, and when I place the new part it is still incorrect. I've also created a new, virgin project with the same results.

What exact version of software are you using? If it's not 17.2-2016 S066 or 17.4-2019 S006 the update to the latest version and see if that helps.

I started from scratch and redid the padshape, padstack, and symbol. Everything is fine now.

(I noticed that there was a "y" offset on the pads within the symbol, even though they should have been 0 on the y axis. Even though everything from the shape through the padstack editor was still set to 0, redoing everything seemed to make things work.)
