Ugly icons (17.4) - can they be changed?

redwire
redwire over 5 years ago

First time to fire up 17.4 and what the heck?  I can not believe or understand the need to change the icons.  I've got eye-muscle memory and literally am hunting for my icons.

Has anyone else found the new look disturbing?  Is there a way to change it?

Thanks

Bill

Looks like 17.4. The point being made by the OP and agreed by me (and others) was the change to the look of 17.4 compared what we have come to know and love with 17.2. I'm sure the change was made for valid reasons, ther're just not obvious :-)

Actually, I like these icons better than 17.4.   17.4 icons were too modern and confusing.

Fortunately, 17.4 allows me to arrange them to 16.6 locations...  That helps.

Like it. Hate Win10!!! Like most of Allegro, I'll get used to the icons I use a lot, will utilize the 'hover' function when possible (still limited to options), will leave it on General Edit mode as much as possible, will turn off Design Workflow, and lastly limit the icons I rarely use (dimensioning??? pin/un-pin???), and continue on making a salary worthy to live in California (vs Altium/PADS) and retire. Aside from that... I'll continue to listen to the drivel of "Engineers are going to do the layouts..." Right...

Hi Mike, thanks for posting that pic.

Personally I feel the UI is just too dark. The Icons have changed from the skeletal type to a more filled type with colours but on a dark background certain colored icons wash out. Basically I think the dark mode is confusing because of the background colour. On a dark background Skeletal is better for the key operations such as etch edit etc.I don't think this UI as is hits the right balance.

Now certain things can be changed including the UI to a light colour.

This looks cleaner IMHO, certainly others may disagree :), it can be difficult at best to get the UI so it pleases everyone. With Allegro users have alot of choice and one can remove icons if they want to.

By way of a suggestion. Most of us use Hotkeys or scripts doing day to day tasks probably more so than navigating around via the std Icon set. I think it would be very useful if there was a method or way to have a set of Icons but have those Icons linked to the function of a hotkey or script. Doing so would be a handy to have as a point and click would have the ability to do simple things or many things at once since the actual icon would be linked to scripts. (Feature-Request)

My preference for the moment is to go with light, but on a dark background my thinking is choose the right mix of Skelital & or filled Icons with colour. By way of an example those filled Icons for the shape edit function don't need to be filled IMHO. The Slide function Icon seems way out in left field but less so when on a light background.

Overall It looks like things are moving forward and coming along so that's good.

    All the best.
