Stacked Conductors or 'Invisible' via

  • Is it possible to have two conductor layers stack on top of each other (without a dielectric in between them) and have allegro pcb detect connection without vias?

OR

  • Is there an 'invisible' via that I can add to constraint manager? By invisible I mean it will not be generated as hole in the drill file but will simply be used for connectivity purposes within Allegro PCB itself

Similar to all PCB editors Allegro works on the principle of layers and dielectric between them. This is because in order to figure out impedance of copper etch a dielectric is needed. This would only apply to the editor as the editor is just merely a way to create fabrication data such as gerber data that would be used to create photoplots and physically make a board or a mask that could be used to chemically etch a material.

Gerber data knows nothing about impedance, layers, dielectric etc. It is just a graphic representation of your artwork.

It should be possible to use Allegro to do what you want to do but you might want to use allegro from the view of just creating gerber photoplots.

In general the answers to your questions are NO.

What exactly are you trying to create ?

Its basically a flex circuit with multiple conductor materials. I figured out a workaround by adding two layers and then having the dielectric be a dummy layer and editing the padstack so the vias between the two conductor 'layers' wont be added to the artwork. It is not ideal but it works for my purposes. It is not ideal because I have these vias, that will not be used, muddying up my design.
