Orcad-Allegro-Highlighting anything really slow after upgrade to 17.4 S008

Hi, I updated to S008 today and am seeing a huge slow down in graphic speed with highlighting.

For example I have 11 parallel traces, if I pass the mouse across them at slow to moderate speed they do not highlight as would be expected. I have to actually land on the trace before it highlights.
The same thing is happening to other objects too like vias, Pins, symbols etc.

It looks like the S008 release has a bug, was wondering if anyone is seeing similar at their end and if a workaround exists ?.

Thanks.

    Hi excellon1

I'm struggling with the same problem. Did you find a solution to this issue?

    Thanks.

    Hi Fluxonator.

All versions since SO8 through current service pack update S20 are broken in 17.4. Over a year now on this & no fix.

Actually no response from Orcad tech support on this either after it was reported in writing and also by way of a video showing the issue recently.

On here just a few days ago others have also confirmed the issue and a few months ago too.

We decided to go back to 17.2 as it is more robust & works. 17.4 does have good new features but it is lacking in the realm of display excellence which is something that Allegro always had
but now looks to be in decline in that regard.

    Hi Excellon1

I got in contact with Orcad Support Germany and was told that this is the "new highlight behaviour" of Orcad 17.4 and that it can not be changed. Allegedly, it should be an "advanced" behaviour because it prevents disruptive flickering when moving the mouse over the board in wide zoom states. This is absolut rubbish and definately a show stopper in my oppinion. It would have been acceptable if there would be at least an option in the user preferences to disable this function or - even better - to set a delay time for the highlighting. Do you know if or where I can post a "bug fix request"?

    Thanks.

So the best thing would be to contact your local Orcad Rep in Germany and report this as a bug. They will file the bug with Cadence.

I think any feature can be changed. It is a Joke they told you it cant be changed because Allegro/Pcb editor has worked with lighting fast highlighting since it was created.
One can also turn off the highlighting too if they do not want it .

Does not make any sense that such a big change would not be allocated a preference. Seriously such a change IMHO should have never made it out the door in the first place.

Competing PCB tools "Do not have this issue"  Prior versions of Allegro 16x, 17x that are used by very large companies to design highly complex boards including PC motherboards
by your favorite X86 processor manufacturer do not have this New All Great "Useless Slow Highlighting Feature"

This thing is not even a feature, it is an abomination !
