3d Canvas Mounting Hole diameter

jatins

I am trying to export Step model of my PCB from 3d Canvas> Export.

The problem i am experiencing is that the Copper plating inside the mounting holes is shown thicker than it should be.

Example: I made a hole of 2mm diameter and in 3d canvas it is showing 1.6mm as internal diameter. As a result, the actual drill size of hole is not shown correctly. Can't find anything to control Copper thickness in pad file.

As an observation, Copper plating thickness is set to 20 percent of hole diameter.

You should report this to Cadence support / Cadence Channel Partner so they can get this investigated for you. In the mean time what happens if you use File - Export - Step (Export - MCAD - Step) from the main window?

They added the plating size to the hole and did not take into account that the hole size is after plating. I submitted a Case and it is supposed to be fixed in a newer version.

If i try the Export-MCAD-Step way, then there are other details(like blind vias) which do not show up in step file.

And even though holes now are shown with correct diameter. These holes are now shown without pads and with checking external Copper option, goes it completely worng.

Not sure what you mean by "goes it completely wrong". Why do you need pads and blind vias in your STEP model? This may be good enough for a workaround until the plating size can be fixed by Cadence.

Pads and blind vias are required purely for mechanical purposes as PCB is being integrated into Mechanical models. Blind vias are big enough that they are being filled by some epoxy or something similar. So , its important to show them in step model. Maybe i should have defined a package/symbol that penetrates only to 1 layer down instead of blind vias.

Anyways, for the moment i have a good enough working model until we have a proper solution.
