PCB Editor: how show component properties on PCB

Hi there.

What is the working way to show the component Value on a PCB board ?

Tried adding in the Symbol drawing definition (dra) of the symbols a Label using the Layout>Display>Label>Value menu. Placed the placeholder, say , on Component_Value>Silkscreen_top

When I process the board, the values are properly transferred, as I can see routing the board.

Next I edit the text to match a size, whose Photo Witdth is not 0. Do the same for a text of say, the package_geometry class to test.
The Component_value class does not show up on the 3D view of the PCB, the PackageGeometry does.

So this looks like a dead end.

What am I doing wrong here?

So by default the 3d canvas will show silkscreen items (silkscreen_top or _bottom) from the classes Board Geometry or Package Geometry and the RefDes. It's very unusual to want to show the value on a PCB Silkscreen so if you want to do this hover over the value text and right click - Change Class/subclass and choose Package Geometry or Board Geometry / Silkscreen_Top or _Bottom. You will then be able to see the value in the 3d Canvas. In most cases value may just be shown in an Assembly Drawing or even not at all since the value may change and can simply be controlled by a bill of materials.

    Thanks Steve, appreciate your help.

Actually I am just trying to show, for instance for hole plain cable connector. a reference to the function to make cabling easier.
Or, for instance, have the led color printed on the silkscreen to avoid misassembling (my manual assembling)

I thought that showing the Value was a way to do this. I tried changing the class, but for Component Value items it is not possible (error raised specifying class cannot be changed).

So in the end is there any chance of showing on the Silkscreen the value of component related property (Part Number, etc)?

The only alternative which comes to my mind is typing the value manually in the dra. Is that so?

This just works for me but I am using 17.4-2019 S014. What exact version are you using? Make sure you are using the latest hotfix for 17.2 / 17.4. Also make sure you only have Text enabled in the Find pane when you try to change class/subclass.

OK...... Make sure you are in General Edit Mode (Setup - Application Modes - General Edit). In the Find pane turn off all objects except text. Hover over the Value text and right click - Change Class/subclass then choose Board Geometry / Silkscreen_Top or Package Geometry / Silkscreen_Top. The text will change and you can now see this in the 3d Canvas.
