17.20 (Electrically Connected) Mounting holes displayed in 3D as boxes or barrels - Reviving old thread...

Dear forum,

I am reviving this thread as I am seeing this problem when displaying a populated board in 3D. Since I design mounting holes as electrical components as I want to connect them to ie. GND, I have tried these options:

1. As a component with PLACE_BOUND_TOP (Or bottom) with property height = 0 mm

2. As a component with PLACE_BOUND_TOP (Or bottom) without any property added to the shapes.

2. As a component without the shapes above.

In neither of these cases, I get a 3D view representation of the board with the holes VISIBLE and NOT covered by black square boxes or barrels of some pre-defined height.

...

Try launching the 3d canvas and then Setup - Preferences - Symbol Representation - and enable Only the STEP model.

Should work - but I have a multitude of components without STEP-models where the 3D representation is defined (in a primitive way) by the PLACE_BOUND_TOP added property "height" ... (some value). The thing is that for ie. a 14 pin DIP component, the PLACE_BOUND_TOP (with added height property) gives the component a  primitive 3D representation of the body, the 14 holes in the circuit board are clearly visible with plating and all.

But maybe there is a 4th way I have yet to try: Adding a PLACE_BOUND_TOP infinitesimal shape to the mounting holes and then assign 0 height to it...

That worked for me, mtg1 and 4 have no height defined (so the default height from Setup - Design Parameters - Design tab - default Symbol height is applied). For mtg2 and 3 the max height for the place_bound_top shape is set to 0.
