LMTOOLS LICENSE MANAGER FAILS

split63 over 4 years ago

We have an old version of Cadence, both PCB Editor & PCB Editor v16.01, used for legacy designs, which just keep on going.

At about the 10 year mark, the license manager just stopped working,.

Within LMTOOLS, clicking "Start Server":  "Server Start Failed. The Server May Already Be Running!!"

Forcing "Stop Server": "Stopping Server".    But no further message

Clicking "ReRead License File".  Results in "Reread Server Failed"

Its been so long since we dealt with license files and the like, I'm not sure where to start to debug this.

Found this in the "Config Services" tab of LMTOOLS.  There is a view Log button.  Clicking it, the log file contains this:

    13:44:36 (cdslmd) FLEXnet Licensing version v10.8.5.0 build 31891 i86_n3
13:44:36 (cdslmd) Server started on Nexzor for:    Allegro_studio
    13:44:36 (cdslmd) PCB_design_studio SPECCTRA_PCB    plotVersa
    13:44:36 (cdslmd)
13:44:36 (cdslmd) All FEATURE lines for cdslmd behave like INCREMENT lines
    13:44:36 (cdslmd)
13:44:36 (cdslmd) Wrong hostid on SERVER line for license file:
    13:44:36 (cdslmd)     F:\Cadence\license_manager\license.dat
13:44:36 (cdslmd) SERVER line says FLEXID=9-36D24A64, hostid is (Can't get hostid of type 15 [Cannot read dongle: check dongle or driver. (-110,511)])

Looks like the license manager can't read the dongle - has it been removed and re-inserted? If so you will need to restart the License Service. First check that the dongle is lit (red LED)? If it's not you may need to download the dongle drivers. Take a look at this:- Installing the USB Dongle Drivers (parallel-systems.co.uk) If the dongle is lit try restarting the service either with a PC reboot ensuring the dongle is plugged in first or try going to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services, locate Cadence License Manager and select then right click Stop then right click Start or Restart and see if that helps. If it doesn't look at the log file again.

I discovered that the log file was old.  I don't know how old, but I cleared it out and restarted everything, and the log file stays empty.   But having only that log file to go on, I moved the dongle to another port and windows re-installed two drives for it, successfully.   I rebooted and tried the software again, same issue.  And the log file was still empty.

Is there any means to confirm the dongle is actually accessible and working?

It also reports that the host name was incorrect as compared to the license file.  I checked that, and it is correct.

Using your suggestion, I went to Services and found that the cadence license manager was disabled. ???????

I started it and ran LMTOOLs and the "Start Server" worked!.   But the software still failed to run

    Rebooting.......hoping for the best

    Rebooted and Bingo, it works.

I have no idea how that cadence license manager became disabled

    Thank you so much
