Differential impedance vs single line impedance

  • Good day everyone!

So, recently I've been tasked to design a small board with a differential pair connection.

The problem is that diff pair calculator shows me that while the differential impedance is close to ideal 100 ohms (around 103, to be more accurate), single line impedance gets to 200 ohms. If I understand everything correctly, it should be twice LOWER (around 50 ohms).

Reference layer exists, it's a Ground net.

What settings should I change/set to make the results more adequate?

Thank you for your help!

  • P. S. I am new to high speed design and signal integrity problems, I apologize if my question is silly.

Which tool are you using? I suspect you've posted this in the wrong forum, but if you can let me know the tool I can either get it answered or redirected to the right place.

Indeed I may have, I'm sorry. I am using Cadence PCB Editor 17.2 with high-speed licence enabled (although I am not sure that I actually need this license to calculate a basic diff pair).
