Create a opening in a existing copper pour.

I have created a cavity opening on all of the layer on the 8 layer board I am working on. Now to make changes to this board I need to add 2 more layers. So first I copied the shape from another layer and moved it outside the board outline. I then switched the layer it was on to one of the new layers. I then moved it to match where the other layer openings were and then placed it. The problem is when I add more copper pours to fill out the rest of the board it doesn't leave the area open. It shows the outline of the cavity but it is flooded over and not open. The screen shot show the outline over the solid pour. This worked on the other 8 layers but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong as it won't leave the area open from copper. The second picture is from a different layer but of the same area of the board.

I created the outline using Shape/polygon then under Active Class and Subclass I picked Cavity and under Shape Fill Type, I selected Cavity since that is what the property is shown for the other layer outlines. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

    Hi

A cavity is normally used to remove or cut into the prepeg of a board. I think you just want to have a copper void in the copper pour instead ?

Anyway to do that try, Shape > Manual Void/Cavity  > polygon.

Draw the polygon on the "Etch Layer" you wish to remove the copper from.

If you need to remove that void you can use Shape > Manual Void/Cavity  > Delete & click on the void.

It won't let me draw a line following your instructions. Using version 17.2 SO72.

    Hi

After you select the command Shape > Manual Void/Cavity  > polygon from the shape menu, you have to double click on the ETCH layer you wish to draw the void on.

There is another approach that most people don't use, but is my favorite:  Anti etch and split planes

Create and anti etch area or closed lines then do a split plane pour....

I like this because I hate the handles on the polygons..  If I need to change the area/s, I move our reshape the anti etch...  :)  So many ways to do the same thing..

I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was trying to place a cavity instead of a keep out area on just that layer. Once I did that everything was back to normal. On a few layers I had to add Via's and Routes allowed so it wouldn't give me DRC errors.
