Re: Allegro 3D canvas - 3D PDF Export - Layout

Hello Everyone,

I am using 17.4-2019 S018 [5/16/2021] Windows SPB 64-bit Edition

I have generated 3D PDF from Allegro 3D Canvas, In the model tree (left side of the PDF) Symbol Properties shows footprint name and reference designator.

Is there any setting needs to be changed so only refence designator will display, screenshot is attached for more clarity.

Sincerely,

VKP.

(oops, first glance, that was a step viewer.  Never used the 3D pdf..)

We use Downstream Blueprint (Orcad Documentation Editor) to generate assembly drawing PDFs.

Adds Refdes properties (a piece of text overlaid over ODB/IPC fab data) to the assembly view that are ctrl-F searchable.

    Hi RFinley,

Below is the 3d_PDF from cadence provided sample board, I found the .brd file locally (Cadence\SPB_17.4\share\orcad\tutorial\allegro) folder and the naming convention looks similar

    Thanks!!

Oh wow.  It's exported from the 3D viewer canvas..  Cross section function too.   Did not know I had that.   Many thanks!

There is Allegro 17.4 Update training ILS but they have not added to it in a while.

Downstream Blueprint appears to use JAVA to drive scrolling BOM tables in PDFs exported using the license option for 3D (they have to buy a license from Adobe for each customer.)

For this, I'm not able to find any knobs to change the model tree.   Similar problem with BOM Tables in Blueprint, the format/column width is fixed.

You are welcome!! Yes It looks like issue with the tool.

3D pdf is very helpful while troubleshooting the board...if they resolve the bug/issue  will be easy to troubleshot a board or find a component on board easily.

You are very patient.  Its slow to open.  The Model Tree menu not sorted by Refdes.   They should hide the footprint names.  Ctlr-F can't find a part by Refdes.

My coworkers, engineers and customer support seem reluctant to learn tools more complex than pads for pcb layout (customer meetings that must go smoothly.)

Including soldermask voids is a huge win as we have thermal issues.

If you can forgo refdes properties but need to view 3D assemblies fast, check out a design tool called FreeCAD.

    Thanks!
