    You need to use the mouse event callbacks.

    add text field with a info field called 'helptip'

    TEXT ""
    TLOC 1 30
    INFO helptip
    FSIZE 80 10
    ENDTEXT

    <somewhere in init function>

    helpLUT = makeTable("helptips" nil)
    helpLUT["stringfield1"] = "this is field 1"
    helpLUT["stringfield2"] = "this is field 2"
    fw = axlUIViewFileCreate(...)
    axlFormSetMouseActive(fw)
    axlFormDisplay(fw)

    <form callback function>
    cond(
            (fw->mouseActive             axlFormSetField(fw "helptip" helpLUT[fw->curField]))
            (t
                ;all other callback handling
                case(fw->curField
                    ("field1"  t)
                )
            )
    )

    Now when you have a 'stringfield1'  or 'stringfield2'  field in your form then it will print the message in the text field.
