How to use “Quickplace” feature for component placement on your PCB

Quickplace lets you floorplan a design faster in the layout editor. You can add unplaced components to the board design. You place logic-bearing symbols outside the board outline, in either a default or user-defined configuration, creating a palette of symbols that you can view, filter, and move into the design.

The layout editor places components in a non-rotated state along the edge of the board geometry boundary. If Quickplace does not detect a board outline, an error message appears.

To access this feature, go to Place > Quickplace from the PCB Editor menu bar.

Using the Quickplace dialog box, you can choose how you want to place your components. The options available in the Quickplace dialog box are shown in the image below:

Some of the options are described below:

Place by room:  This option places components in one or all rooms simultaneously.

Place by schematic page number: This option places all unplaced parts simultaneously from multiple schematic pages while maintaining an update of those with unplaced components.

Place by property/value: This option places components by a property and its value. The pull-down menu lists all properties, including user-defined properties, assigned to unplaced component instances and definitions in the current design.
