Allegro 17.2 Footprint Replace/Edit

I have a board design that needs a footprint change. Unfortunately, I do not have a schematic or netlist available.

Is there a way I can replace or edit the incorrect footprint in the .brd file with PCB Editor?

Use File>Export>Netlist w/Properties to generate a netlist that you can modify & read back in

Or, if you don't know how to edit the netlist, use the following steps:

use Logic>Net Logic... to remove the existing footprint pins from the nets

Use Logic>Part Logic... to remove the existing footprint, than add the new footprint back in

Use Logic>Net Logic... to add the new footprint pins to the nets

Hi, in addition to what David Mentioned there is possibly an easier way. By way of an example suppose you have an 8pin dip package that you want to replace with a 8pin soic instead but you don't have a schematic.

    Here are the steps.

1 Export the symbols on the existing design to a folder. Update your PSM and padstack paths to point to this folder.

2 Locate the footprint you wish to change and make the changes. Note since the database contains the netlist you should try make sure that your updated symbol has the same number of pins.

3 in the pcb editor go to "Place > Update Symbols, locate the package symbol of the edited footprint in the list and tick the box "Update symbol padstacks from library" then click refresh.

Main thing on all of this is to keep in mind to preserver the same number of pins on the new device because the existing netlist in the database needs to match the number of pins that exist on the older footprint.

    Use File>Import>Logic/Netlist...

Switch from the Cadence tab to the Other tab

change the Import Netlist: file name to the exported file that you had edited

    Pick the Import button
