Design Sync Setup & Layout Folder

I am fairly new to Cadence PCB Editor, I have worked on various layouts but keep running into an issue.  I have noticed it more now since we transitioned to EDM for data management.  The problem is when setting up design sync it seems to have the Layout Folder Set to "allegro\allegro" instead of "allegro".  The sync seems to work occasionally but sometimes I will get a packager error.  I think the main confusion here is I did not have formal training on how to link a .brd file with a OrCad schematic.  It has seemed to work out of brute force in the past but I would like to understand a bit more on how to cleanly link them.

I have also ran into this issue when packaging up old projects to a new format.  Previously .brd files were in an "Allegro" folder, I have since changed this to "Layout" folder.  On new projects it seems to work just fine but when I try and modify an old project that used to use "allegro" as the layout folder it seems to have issues.  Any insight or guide that I can be pointed to?
