Severe Lag in OrCad X PCB Editor During Routing and Infinite Cursor Use

Hello Cadence Community,

I'm encountering a serious issue with Cadence OrCad X's PCB Editor that's significantly hindering my work. I've recently started experiencing extreme lag during routing connections and when hovering around using the "Infinite Cursor" mode. This problem is severe enough to make the software nearly unusable for these tasks.

Detailed Issue Description:

  • Lag in Operations: The mouse movement becomes extremely laggy when I am routing connections or hovering around hovering around using the "Infinite Cursor."
  • System Specifications: I'm using OrCad X on a Windows 10 machine equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super graphics card. Another PC with a similar setup does not exhibit this issue on 17.4, which is perplexing.
  • Troubleshooting Efforts: I've ensured my graphics drivers are up to date, checked system compatibility, and experimented with OrCad's settings, but to no avail. No other software on my machine seems to conflict with OrCad.

Given the powerful graphics card in my system, it's surprising to encounter such significant performance issues. I'm reaching out for advice or solutions from anyone who might have faced a similar problem. Could this be a unique software bug, or is it more likely an issue specific to my system's interaction with OrCad?

Any tips, settings suggestions, or insights would be immensely helpful. This issue is critically affecting my ability to work on PCB designs efficiently.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Hi There. in addition to what Steve had mentioned there was in 17.4 a condition that caused the full screen cursor to become very laggy as you describe on a moderate to large board. This is something you can tray to see if it helps or not.

The issue was related to the Allegro "Start Page". If a user disabled the start page then the result would be a very laggy full screen cursor.

To see if that helps any, go to user preference's and do a search for Start. "Allegro_No_Start page". If disabled the un-check the box to re-enable the start page.

The default is to have the start page enabled. If the setting is for that you could also try to dis-able the start page to see if it helps any.
