How to review designs by using comments and markups in your board file?

A new feature of adding comments while reviewing designs has been added in Allegro X and OrCAD X releases to facilitate collaborative design. It is available only as a single-user model.

To add comments by using the Markup feature, Go to Tools > Markup. An empty Comments panel opens on the right. Click on the New Comment icon to add any comment on the design.

Zoom out or zoom in to the area on the design canvas as required, select the markup tool to be displayed on board (Draw rectangle or Draw arrow), select the object or area on board, enter a comment in the text field and you can use text formatting options (Bold, Italic, Underline) to format the text. Finally, click Submit to attach a comment to the board file.

Markup data is attached to the board and displayed on the board in the canvas once the comment is submitted. The markup data is added and is displayed as a rectangle or a yellow arrow to the selected area with a unique ID.

You can also modify the comment text, delete the comment from the Markup database, or resolve to close an open comment by clicking on the More Options icon and choosing from the Edit, Delete, or Resolve option, respectively.

You can also view and navigate through the comments added by simply selecting the markup annotation in the design canvas (the comment associated to that markup gets highlighted in the Comments panel) or by simply selecting a comment in the Comments panel (the markup associated to that comment gets highlighted). Keep scrolling through the comments to navigate them in the design.

Markup data is saved with the design database and can be transferred to other users to share the task assigned. The comments added can just be a simple information to be conveyed or a task assignment.  So, the comments added can be reviewed by other users and multiple users can easily collaborate on this.

What do you think of this feature? Let us know scenarios you can think of where this can be utilized.

Hello Daniel, this feature is available in SPB 23.1 and onwards for now. Unfortunately, you would not be able to use this in 17.4.

Any idea on how you can un-archive the markup comments? Or what can be used to read them in the markup archive folder? The file is a .json??

We use a simple tool like snippet to get images and place them onto a spreadsheet.

Anyone can view it without a cadence license. We track the severity, options, solutions, etc., on the spreadsheet. This also creates an archive history.

This Markup feature is something we would not use.
