What is Microvia Slot and how it can be added using Padstack Editor?

Currently, plated slots can be used as vias and pins in the layout but there is no way to use the small-plated slots as microvias.

Starting SPB 23.1, a new padstack usage, Microvia Slot, is added in Padstack Editor. This is an addition to the microvia drill support, which is expanded beyond circle-plated and square-plated holes.

To add this type of padstack, invoke Padstack Editor and you will find the new feature, Microvia Slot.

Microvia slot padstacks allow rectangular and oval-plated types of slots.

The routed slot, as shown below, is the diameter of the drilled hole before plating and the finished slot is the diameter after plating steps are done. This is also introduced in the 23.1 release where this field is introduced for an accurate unit-controlled value of the hole before plating is done.

This type of padstack, when added in the layout, will follow the standard microvia constraints as specified in Constraint Manager.

Comment below the scenarios where you see the usage of microvia slots in your design flow?
