symbol locked issue

Question

hello 
 i try to move pins on a symbol. 
 i unlock the symbol and am able to move pins. 
 however, once i close and reopen the file, the symbol is locked again. 
 is there a way to unlock symbols even after i close the file? 
 is locking symbol automatic? 
 is there any user setup where i can unlock symbols all the time?

You're posting in the PCB Editor community, but it sounds from what you're describing like you're actually in the Allegro Package Designer tool. There, the tool tries to keep symbols locked on your behalf to prevent undesired edits which leave your symbol misaligned with the definition. You can disable this behavior by enabling the icp_disable_auto_symbol_lock option in your user preferences. 
 Note, though, that if you unlock the symbol and move the pins, you are NOT changing the definition. If you were to export your libraries, you would not see any of the changes you had made. You're changing a single, specific instance of that part to no longer match the definition. If your intent is to modify the definition and ALL instances, consider using the symbol edit application mode. That environment is the APD tool's place to modify the library part definitions in the context of the surrounding layout design. If you use this tool to modify your pin placements, a dump libraries will export with all the changes that you've made.
