Orcad X PCB Editor vs Presto

I am trying to understand the thought process behind dividing up features that force one to use both editors. For e.g., one cannot align vias in Orcad X Professional Editor (only the Allegro license can), but you can align vias in Orcad X Presto. I would like to understand the logic behind forcing the use of two PCB editors with the Orcad X Pro license. I thought Orcad X Pro was the superset. Trying to transition from Xpedition, it is these little things that make it irritating. I'm using 24.1.

Regarding the specific example you mentioned, via alignment is a feature that is indeed available in Allegro, but not in the Orcad X Professional Editor. The reason for this is that Allegro has a more advanced set of features for PCB layout and editing, including via alignment, which is commonly used in high-density PCB designs. Allegro's via alignment feature allows for more complex via placement and alignment rules, which are not available in the Orcad X Professional Editor.

The Orcad X Professional Editor is a PCB layout and editing tool that provides a set of features for designing and editing PCBs. However, it is not a direct replacement for Allegro, which has its own strengths and features.

Thank you for the response, much appreciated. Just trying to overcome years of muscle memory. I have found Orcad PCB Editor easier than Presto. I never really got comfortable with Altium.

Two more questions. Is there any plan to allow Livedoc to be invoked from Orcad PCB Editor? I prefer that for documentation as it somewhat similar to Drawing Editor I am used to, or will I always have to invoke Presto to access Livedoc?

And as far was Livedoc (or Orcad PCB editor) goes, any plan to allow font substitution with Arial or some other TTF font that can be text searchable in PDF for Assembly drawings? Livedoc currently seems to use TTF fonts for some things, just not for Assembly view of the board.

Could you please share your thoughts of why are you looking for font substitution? I understand that to you like to  have pdf which has searchable fonts in it.
Is there any other requirement other than the above?

In general, anything that is paper or electronic documentation for manufacturing and not used for board fab, the preference is to have a font that is easier to read or search. It makes the printed documentation more readable on the factory floor. Vector fonts can come off as jagged and harder to read. I've also had issues with OCR with non-TTF fonts when I try to make documents searchable.

Thank you again for considering this feedback.

Implementing Live doc into Orcad X PCB Editor is not much concentrated as of now. The idea of having live doc in Orcad x PCB editor as in presto can be taken into account in the future if requested by more number of users and it is not paid much attention now. The pdf which is exported from livedoc is in searchable format. The text is searchable in Livedoc PDF, eventhough it is in vectorized font, as in the OrCAD-X database.
