Altium Import into Allegro 17.40 Problem

Folks,

I have imported Altium ASCII projects into Allegro before without too much issue.  However, this time, it is taking a huge a mount of time and never finishes, but gets stuck on 1-out-of-364 components during the importation process.  The Altium layout file is 11.4 Mbytes in size, but I do  ot know the version of the client's Altium Designer package.

Has anybody else had this Altium import issue arise?

Can you share the error code or log file to check the issue?

    Hi,

I do not get an "error code" or "log file" as the process never gets that far before the entire Allegro import process locks up completely.  The only way to stop the Allegro "freeze" is to go to the Task Manager and "end the task".  All I see when I say "Translate" is the fact it is "Create footprints" dialog indicating it is working on "Part record 1 of 346" and that dialog pops up.  That's it!

Also, when I looked at the Windows 10 Task Manager, it shows the following:

"Cadence Allegro (2)" with subcategories "cdsMsgServer.exe" and the Allegro project that is running.  The cdsMsgServer.exe process is using ZERO CPU and 2.0 MB of memory, but the Allegro app is using 3.8% CPU (very high!) and 614 MB of memory.  Now both of these Allegro apps Task Manager values are moving in time, but not changing anything it seems as I purposely left it in this state for 30 minutes with no end of what I have just described.

Hope this helps.  Never seen this before with Altium ASCII files and I have done this many times.  I have had to edit PADS ASCII files in the past to get the translation process to work, but I do not have any experience with Altium ASCII files.
