Snap to Grid Point when moving objects

Fredda
Fredda 7 months ago

By default the Move command seems to snap to the lower left corner (origin?) of a text string and the center (origin?) of a symbol. This makes the text string or symbol jump across the screen in a seemingly uncontrolled fashion. Pretty annoying. Especially when zoomed in on a symbol and doing fine adjustments.

I can get around this by activating the Move command, hover over the symbol, RMB click and chose Snap pick to -> Grid Point. But how do I make this the default behaviour? I thought I could use the Persistent snap function, but that doesn't seem to do anything or I have completely misunderstood the function.

/F

The origin of text is determined when adding text by setting the options: Left, Right, or Centered.

When moving text, you can use the "User Pick" snap option.

When using the move command go to the options pane. There is a drop down box there to select user pick from. Typically this box defaults to sym origin as the default.

    Best regards.

Ah, ok. That one. That actually works although you first need to click the object and then click the user-pick origin. I've always regarded that setting as only relevant for when rotating an object since is is located under the Rotation header.

However, I still think that the Persistent snap function should be the way to go. Only problem is I don't understand how it's supposed to work.

Hi Fredda, instead of using user pick for text try "Body Center instead. On text this will snap to center of the text once setup in the options pane.

If using user pick the original justification of how the text was entered will be kept. So if text was left justified then user pick will snap to the left of the text.

Body center is a better option for text I think. Seems to work good for ref dez etc. Give that a go and see if it works there.
