How can I Export Soldermask Color to the 3D step file?

Soldermask color export is possible in the new 3DX tool available in both Allegro X and OrCAD X Presto. 

To do this in the Allegro X PCB Editor, open the 3DX tool by typing "3DX" into the command prompt or by selecting the icon shown below.

This icon appears when "X" licenses are used, including OrCAD X PCB Standard. 

Alternatively, use the OrCAD X Presto PCB Editor tool, navigate to the General tab and select 3D Mode. 


 

  • Navigate to the Display tab in the Visibility panel, as shown in the image below.

  • Choose a soldermask color in the Material Colors section.

  • In the 3D Export Options panel, nominate to include soldermask layers in the export.

  • Select the Export button to output the step file. The soldermask color will now be included in the step file representation of the board. 

The step file for this board now contains the chosen color when loaded in a 3D Viewer.
