fixed vias

hello

is there a way to retain a net with a floating via?

this via is not connected to any net so i assign a net to the via and fix the via.

but after i connect a cline with the via and delete the cline, the net on the via disappears although the via is fixed.

regards

masa

    Hi Masa.

Using V17.2 This is working fine.

Copy via so it has no net and move it off the board. Assign a net to the via, Fix Via. Add a connect.

All good, cline takes on the net name.

What version are you running there ?

    All the best.

thank u for ur response, excellon1.

i am using 23.1 and actually i found the solution.

using "retain_net_on_via" on the via property solved my problem.

    regards

    masa

    Hi Masa,

Yes indeed, that will work, however on 17.2 there is no need to actually invoke that property after assigning a net to the via. It is unusual that without the propriety your via disappears. But hey you got it working so that's good.

Usually on vias that have a net what I typically do is simply copy the via, but in the Options panel there is the option to retain that net or not.
Typically I have the retain net check box ticked.

    All the best.

    Hi Excellon,

I'm using Allegro 17.2 Middle license tier.

I cannot figure out how to assign a net to a free-standing via.

Google says to be in general edit mode, select via, and then assign net from the right-click pull down.

I don't know what general edit mode means.

    Can you step me through?

    Thanks,

    Hi Avant,

Google is correct on this with the steps. To verify what edit mode you are in try the following.

On the 17.2 PCB Editor go to the tool bar >Application Mode & choose "General Edit"

Usually General edit mode is the default !

Another method is on the 17.2 UI, look at the bottom of the screen to the right of the three items in the middle Mils/MM P A. there is a drop down
list that's not obvious. Click on that to change the mode.

BTW you can also assign a net to the via in "Etch Edit Mode"

    Best regards.
