3D DRCS in Allegro X

With 3DX Canvas, the 3D DRC is supported for the individual and different component categories, such as mechanical, connector, discrete, QFN, SOP, and BGA. You can specify 3D clearance values in Constraint Manager for horizontal and vertical spacing between components now.

How do you specify 3D Constraints?

Once you have created your Cset in CM, click on Add Row in the Component-to-Component worksheet and you will be prompted with dialog box to specify the clearances.

Select the component or class and set the Horizontal and Vertical values.

Once done, you can see the DRCs in layout as well as your 3DX Canvas.

How to enable the settings?

To enable the settings, you have done for 3D DRC in Constraint Manager worksheet, make sure you enable them in Analysis Modes as well:

Have you tried this feature yet? I would love to hear your comments back on this and would like to understand how this is best utilized in the design process.

The 3D DRC capability in 3DX Canvas is quite handy, particularly when dealing with complex-shaped components such as BGAs or QFNs. Setting clearance values horizontally and vertically enables accurate management of 3D space between components, beyond typical 2D inspection methods. I love that the Constraint Manager provides for variable settings on a class or component-by-class basis, which is ideal for high-density applications.
