Do you know how to allow specific nets inside a route keepout?

Sometimes we may need to allow a specific net, such as ground, inside a route keepout. No other nets should be allowed.

How do we achieve?

One answer is assigning the Route Keepout shape to an RKO Group.

Do this using the right mouse button over a route keepout shape, and choose “Assign To Keepout Group”.

Now enter a new group name.

This group membership is now seen displaying a show element report of the keepout.

To add the nets to this RKO Group:

  • Choose the menu Edit > Groups.

Alternatively, type “groupedit” in the Command window.

  • Select the group type from the dropdown: “RKO Group”.

  • In the Options panel, choose the group name you want to add objects to.
  • In the PCB Canvas, now select the nets you want to add to the group.
  • Choose Done from the pop-up menu.

DRCs will now be eliminated for elements that are part of this group.

    Hi John,

That method does work if the RKO Group exists. So there are a couple of methods to get there. I think it is easier to create the RKO Shape and assign it to the Group at the same time. Doing this means the chance of having objects that basically do nothing wont exist
within the CM. it is kind of a preference type of thing.

Getting back to my prior comment, I think the mechanics could be improved in particular with respect to the "Options Box" where one assigns a Group name and the selection of nets to exclude from the Keepout. My point was, how would anyone know that they could select the nets/etch as you had described above for exclusion from the RKO. It is not very intuitive.

    Best regards.

Hi Excellon, so are you asking for a tool enhancement on this? I do agree it could be a little better. I suspect the list is not displayed currently because it is perhaps not so straight forward to display a list of various object types. A general group can contain anything from shapes to components to clines, nets etc - which are all various different "things". Some with locations, some without; some bounding boxes or some vertices, or component references etc... I suspect the display of group lists on a ui could be very cluttered.
