3D Model doesn't Get Exported with Footprint Library

Howdy,

I have an OrCAD design from another company that didn't include the footprint, padstack, and step model files. I can export the footprints and padstacks using Export->More->Libraries , but the 3D model doesn't get exported. Is there a good way to get all the 3D models from the old design so that I can reuse them?

Unfortunatley the 3d step model isn't stored in the board file, only a graphical representation. You can either ask the "other" company for the step model or try a google serach for the model on ultralibrarian, samcsys, snapmagic or 3dcontentcentral.com.

Just fyi that the newest 3DX program version does in fact have the ability to store step models for re-export. This was not possible in the older 3D Canvas, and for this Steve was 100% correct.

A lot of effort has been made by the software team to create advancements on this in 3DX; so it is now possible to import, store and export these models from Allegro X / OrCad X using the command "3d_model_export". If the design originates from the old 3D Canvas tool versions, then the new model format is possibly not stored anyway.Users would need to open 3DX and reimport ( refresh ) the models in order store them and enjoy the upgrade.

Thanks John - wasn't aware of this but it's a great addition. Lots of customers have been asking for this and it works well.
