OrCAD X PCB Professional Copper Wire passing through Mechanical Hole but no DRC Error

BaldEngineer

Hi

I just came across this problem  where a Copper Line is passing through a 3mm Mechanical hole on Layer4 of my design.

And i don't see any DRC Error reported. I can confirm that this is not something that has gone through Waive DRC Window.

As seen in picture below, thin green lines was the original location of this 3-pin connector. And i moved it a bit to the right.

So, now pin 3 mechanical hole(No net) is crashing with the copper line(Net 5309092) and i am getting no error about this.

Hi there, please check if you have Hole to DRCs enabled (not set by default)  Also using the Analysis Modes ui and in the  Design Section, check that the Mechanical Spacing Checks are switched on. Here, there is a section Mechanical drill hole to conductor spacing and constraint value can be entered here. Let me know if this works.

Yes - I have done some testing on this to check; It does depend on your design and hole type setup of course. But from testcases I checked today, I believe the best solution is to use the Spacing > Hole To as you showed in image 2. The hole spacing will provide shape voiding or line to hole drcs for unplated mechanical pins.

When there is no copper annular ring surrounding a pin (or via), we should certainly make sure "hole" spacing checks are active. Let me know if this works for you now.
