Donut Pad

Hello,

I'm a bit confused bout the difference between donut pad and plated thru pin. And why does some donut pads has paste mask. Can you help me with clear these?

    Are you confused because they both look "donut" shaped?

    A donut pad offers more versatility when designing it. You get to input the outer and inner diameter. 

    I guess you could create plated thru pads using a donut pad. But I think it has to do with the final use.
