FORM IN 17.4

Hi,

It is me or are the "new" forms really bad for designers? I'm trying to create a custom tool and I lost so much time on fighting with the form "layout"... The auto-align function causes so many issues, not to speak that dark and light mode are not the same and 17.2 is unusable...

To create a semi-decent form that works/looks fine in 17.4 dark and light mode is almost impossible.

It would be great to let the user decide if he wants to use the auto-align function or not or at least to have some option for fields to overwrite this... Or please give us some form editor to draw the form graphically instead of text editor/try and error... I lost so much time on the layout of the form some days more than on actually writing the code...

Here list of issues:

- FIELDs with POPups are different width in light and dark theme
- OPTION RIGHT for text is hard to handle
- any long TEXT is an issue it will jump higher than regular shorter TEXT
- positioning fields/controls close together is impossible
- auto align is unpredictable creating random spaces sometimes more than a couple of centimetres
- BUTTONs auto-size is hard to handle/predict
- many more...

I read the migration suggestion and new form handling, but honestly, it doesn't help much... Anyone else has the same feeling?

I am equally frustrated with the migration process for forms. I was hoping this topic would generate much discussion. Is there a way to maintain the legacy form in 17.4?

    Hi David,

Honestly me too... I don't want to just point out what's wrong I would like to cooperate with Cadence to make it better but when not enough people are pointing out that this is a serious issue then there will be only a little effort from the Cadence team. I was recommended to create COS cases (already had about 3-4 regarding form bugs - special characters handling, string in INT/REAL fields, incorrect field_width, issues with grid, ...)

And no, there is no way how to turn on old form behaviour. There is a rumour that in the upcoming QIR will be this issue addressed, but to what extent don't know...

Here some pictures for better visual imagination of what adding one BUTTON can do... Please note that the GROUPBOX, TEXT and STRFILLIN elements have the same code in all 4 pictures but they are visually totally different...

I have the same problem and I don't know how to solve it. I try several times to find the correct size and position but every time the form do stranger things....

Cadence support have to fix these bugs asap.

It is really a stupid decision to let users waste too much time to maintain the changes of the form. It makes me feel very angry. It is almost impossible to make the form appear the same as before.
Cadence must fix this problem ASAP.
