How to set a design in Read-only mode in TCL

Hello,
is it possible to set a design in read-only mode?

When switching to the Variant View Mode, then all the pages are read-only and I cannot do any modifications to it.
Is there a possibility to achieve the same? I would like to set the design in read-only mode even when I am not in the Variant View mode, but in the <core design> view

Thanks

Patrick

    Hi PatEscher ,

Yes, it’s possible to set the design in read-only mode using TCL.

Just select the .dsn in Project Manager and run:

    Menu "Edit::Lock"

This locks the design and prevents any modifications, similar to Variant View Mode but within the core design view.

    Hope it helps!

    Hello,

Yes, this is clear, but it is a different behavior.

so when using the 'Lock' functionality, it modifies the dsn and flags it as dirty. this is exactly what we do not want.

We are simply looking for a possibility to make the 'pages/design'  not modifiable, like we see when switching to the Variant view Mode

    Thanks

    Hi PatEscher ,

Yes, I understand — as soon as we use the Lock command, an asterisk appears on the .dsn, indicating unsaved changes.

However, you can simply save the .dsn after locking, and that asterisk will be removed. Importantly, the modified date and time of the .dsn or its pages do not change just by locking.

From there, you can continue viewing or running operations on the design — and as long as no page or the .dsn is unlocked, it will remain in a read-only state, and the asterisk won’t appear again.

    Hope this helps!

yes, understood. but it changes hashcodes etc... we have certain functionality which triggers on this so we want to avoid it. and going through UI to do certain oeprations is a real bad practise, so we would need tcl functionality in either way

btw, I see tcl commands like capGetIsSchematicEditingDisabled

what does this function do, what purpose does it server? how can it be used and is there also a setter for it
